chipmunk stealing a peanut. Animal photography, wild animal photography, chipmunk photograph, chipmunk, Canadian

Chippi

"Two old Bachelors were living in one house; One caught a Muffin, the other caught a Mouse." - Edward Lear

This little moment cost me two whole peanuts so you better enjoy it. I was walking out to the car to pick up my gear from the back seat when I noticed two little chipmunks were sniffing around the peanut shells I dropped. So I tossed one nut out and wouldn't you know it; before I could get set up it was gone. I decided it would be prudent to be in position before offering up the good a second time around.

I was about three meters (nine feet) away from where I dropped the peanut when he snuck around the corner, stretched for the nut and disappeared. The second shutter execution in this series was a blur of fur as he made off with the goods.

Congrats on the new lens Paul. Looks like it's already paying dividends. Amazing detail in the pics, especially of the peanut shell; like it was viewed through a jeweler's monocle. Your caption made me snort laughing, "The second shutter execution in this series was a blur of fur as he made off with the goods." Thanks for making my hour, pal, and for the nice conversation on MSN ;o)

This photo is furry dynamite! Cute--NOT. Love the quote, you're adept with text and image. Ever think of putting the quote within the frame of the photograph? Just an idea.

Wow! I can practically smell the peanut from here! Stunning capture, Paul. Absolutely makes my day.

Thanks, BTW, for the D80 news. I'm right in line with you: I was going to stretch for the D200, but I think I'd rather get this and keep the savings for lenses.

Excellent photo. Cute animal. It's nice to meet a fellow Ontarian. I hike in the Halton Region conservation areas around Milton such as Kelso and Rattlesnake Point. Thanks for visiting my blog. Yours looks great.

I love the chipmunks. They are everywhere here in New York City, but I haven't seen them down in Virginia.

Did you have your camera just sitting on the ground?
Great shot.

About the depth of field thing. Is there any way to change the f stops on a little Canon PowerShot camera? I have looked on my manual settings and haven't figured it out yet. I did change the ISO for some of my cityscape night shots and it is better, but still can't seem to get the shutter to manually stay open specific numbers of seconds. I think I need a bigger camera.
