The glow of Acton Ontario off of storm clouds

Rolling in

"Clouds come floating into my life, no longer to carry rain or usher storm, but to add color to my sunset sky." - Rabindranath Tagore

I had a frustrating evening last night and the storm front ever so slowly rolling towards our home was a nice distraction for an hour. I stood in the field of soy across the road from our home with my tripod dug into the dirt and experimented with different exposures, ISO, focal lengths and lenses. The problem with the lightning last night was that it was all inner cloud. Not a single bolt to be seen.

I learned a few things about settings and though the picture isn't awful it is not as exciting as a classic lightning bolt frozen against a black sky.

It's going to be a long weekend...

This is interesting in that there are many photos with traditional lightening, the bolts striking the ground, but I don't remember ever seeing a photo of this type before. What caused the warm orange color in the cloud formation in the upper right part of the photo? I would have expected lightening to create a cold, blue/white color.

Dick, I am not all to sure, there was a lot of orange along the top layer of the thunderheads as strikes in the cloud continued to go off. I was surprised to see the orange. Also the cloud is not in a position to reflect any orange light coming from the town due east of my position. I am stumped myself.

Thanks for stopping by all.

cheers,

Paul

Paul, great photo and quote. For what it's worth, I took a photo w/ similar "orange" results from the cockpit once. I suspect our eye doesn't caught a lot that's there.

I think this is beautiful as well. It looks almost like a painting. The orange is fascinating.

I like that you are also not afraid to show some pixels. I often use high ISO rates and therefore my photos have visible pixels, but I do not care, as long as I like them.
