Godard Art
"I don't use drugs, my dreams are frightening enough." - Maurits Cornelis Escher
Michael Godard lays down base color and shape on a black canvas with sponge brush and vibrant acrylic red. I overheard the comment while making my way through the crowd to snap different angles of him working "I bet (wish I could remember the name) never painted like this". Whom ever the onlooker referred to was correct; what with the hard rock, go-go dancers and strobe lights going this was a little different.
The challenge was that the crowd had pulled in tight to watch Michael paint. I wanted to maintain as low a profile as possible and still get some good action shots for the gallery owner. With the gallery lights all but off and strobe lights going it was a case of relying on my flash and a faster lens. I could have dumped the cameras ISO to 1600 and used a wider angle and much slower lens but I didn't want the noise in the pictures. The 35-70mm performed well though and I think the shots told an effective story even if I couldn't get a nice wide shot of the whole scene.

The art on his arm almost blends with that on the canvas.

I think, though I didn't ask, the tatoo is Michaels own creation. Which is odd, as what I have heard most often is that you should never design your own tatoo. Apparently this stem from the fact that you will always see the imperfections and mistakes in your own design.
You would however think that anyone doing this would have the design worked out ahead of time and make sure that it was as best as it could be.
Thanks for stopping by SRP.
cheers,
P.

Ravvy
that is SUCH a great pic!! *as are they all*
The tattoos on the arm closest are actually mainly the characters from Tim Burtons 'The Nightmare before Christmas' movie... *one of my personal faves, hence why i knew what they were from..!!*
Thanks for your great photography Paul!!!

He also has some charachters from "Where the Wild Thing Are" that you can't see here. The charachters in the tattoo fit the individual and of that I am confident.
cheers,
