Grasshopper
When all the birds are faint with the hot sun,
And hide in cooling trees, a voice will run
From hedge to hedge about the new-mown mead;
That is the Grasshopper's--he takes the lead
In summer luxury,--he has never done
With his delights; for when tired out with fun
He rests at ease beneath some pleasant weed.
- John Keats
This photo-op presented itself with a leap from the bbq to the young cedar trees that line the fence at the end of the yard. I don't know who startled who more, but I do marvel at the precision of the leap and flight that perched him on one of the lower branches. I cheated a little on this photo and cropped it tightly around his head to bring out the details, however the full shot is available as a new desktop wallpaper. That is, if you're into the whole insect thing...

The picture is amazing (all of your pics are!) and I really liked the Keats poem, too.

I saved your wallpaper of the farm sunset and the small purple flower. I love insects, not spiders, but not sure if I want to see the grasshopper eyes on my 19 inch monitor at 5am. Your pictures are lovely. Someday I would love to trade up to the Nikon D70.
