a close-up detail of bark covered in a spongy array of greens and yellow moss

After the rain

"Out of damp and gloomy days, out of solitude, out of loveless words directed at us, conclusions grow up in us like fungus: one morning they are there, we know not how, and they gaze upon us, morose and gray. Woe to the thinker who is not the gardener but only the soil of the plants that grow in him." - Friedrich Nietzsche

The sky is the color of television static and the rain has not stopped for over 19 hours. In sheets and showers and drizzles and droves it has soaked the land and washed the world of summer time dust. One thing about the rain though, the moss; the trees turn these bright greens and yellows along their trunks as the spores comes back to life. It will all be back to normal by the time tomorrow evening sets in but until then the trees are green from root to canopy.

The photograph is of a small detail of bark covered in a spongy array of greens and yellows with bluish tints.

I am sure that at some point Geoff will chime in to tell me something about moss I didn't know or maybe even give me a Latin lesson in what species I have here.

The shot above is a salvaged attempt of a hike to a destination where I ended up missing the sunset I had been hoping for.

Your "salvages" are more beautiful than most of my "planned" attempts. I am with the previous commenter, the colors are lovely.
