A sunset photograph of the Dufferin Quarry

Dufferin Quarry sunset

"Men have become the tools of their tools" - Henry David Thoreau

A sunset photograph of the Dufferin Quarry required a two kilometer hike back through a very dark series of twisting trails to get back to the car. I had promised myself to wait out the setting sun till the sky was pitch black, however with this shot being take just after twenty two hundred hours and the vibrant horizon still casting amber hues I knew it was time to pack up. The horizon was still bright by the time I got home and I think I will need to make another attempt at this in August. I am also under the impression that the shot would work better with some dramatic clouds to silhouette the buildings against.

Update to the blog; Google Maps out puts a lat/long string in its map results and its easy enough to capture. So I will try my best to provide the location of each shot to within a few meters so that if you are local or passing through you can take your own stab at it. You can find the link at the bottom of the photo details column.

Yes, you are correct; I AM on a Thoreau kick.

I really don't see how you could get a more perfect shot.
Not too forboding, not too bright, just the right amount of mystery. Can't tell if people are working but the place is well lit. Makes me want to explore.
