Rural Silver

2007_07_21.jpg Now this short-stubby-little grain elevator I've been meaning to shoot for a while, just waiting for the right sky. When the light hits it just right and you get a dark background it becomes a nice feature in a field of crops. I waited till the sun had dropped below the visible horizon and the light situation went from direct to ambient.

A good weekend to all.

Tomorrows shot will be a detail of some pollen covered grass reeds. I'm taking name suggestions for the post.

Sunset Through Fence

2007_07_20.jpg The sky has been largely featureless in the mornings and evenings around here. This is the same fence post and about the same position as the shot posted a few days prior. The photograph itself was taken after that storm front had rolled through and the sun had begun to set.

I'm starting to find an enjoyment in shooting the simple rural surroundings. Though coming up with titles for these, not as much fun.

Still No Rain

2007_07_16.jpg We need some good rain around here, I'm talkin about 2 or 3 days of steady ground soaking rain. For now the storms seem to just pass over us barely leaving a damp blade of grass but no serious rain.

I should have pulled out the tripod for these shots but I was far too lazy.

Down on 17th Side-road

2007_06_30.jpg I've been getting back on the bike this year and pedaling my way across the local country side. This is after years of barely riding which was preceded by my late teens and early twenties where 100km plus bike rides were the weekend norm. So of course I am nowhere near that fitness, endurance, strength or ability to recover over night. However it affords me the ability to lug my camera around and not worry about parking the car, drawing attention to myself and clearly I can off-road it.

This spot is down on 17th Side-road. Just a farmers field with the hydro running through it. Long exposure with a tripod after the sun had dropped out of sight. This spot is great for fireflies at night. I've added this to the desktops by the way. Too lazy to link, so click at the top, find landscape related shots and you're done.

Good long weekend to all Canucks.

Playing Soldier

2007_06_15.jpg A member of a WWII reenactment group waits to hit the streets of Prague in a small celebration of the freeing of Prague and in effect the entire country from Nazi occupation. Though the Russians were the official liberators of the eastern front these men and most everyone in the country would rather put on US or British uniform to remember. After all the Russians were the liberators that never left.

Green Love

2007_06_07.jpg An interesting growth of heart shaped leaves along a stretch of the Bruce Trail. Caught my eye at the start of a short hike and I didn't spot anything as dense and interesting for the rest of the hike.
